Memphis Rapper Indicted on Federal Gun Charges
Feds: Rapper Glorifying Gun Violence While Selling Drugs
U.S. Attorney Kevin Ritz Alleges Violation of Federal Firearms Laws
Memphis, Tenn. – A federal grand jury returned an indictment today charging Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty with possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a drug-trafficking crime, announced U.S. Attorney Kevin Ritz, Western District of Tennessee.
According to the indictment, Lontrell Williams, 21, aka Pooh Shiesty, possessed a Glock Model 43x 9mm pistol in furtherance of distributing marijuana and cocaine base and discharged the firearm during and in relation to the drug trafficking offenses.
If convicted, Williams faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
U.S. Attorney Ritz commended the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office; and the Memphis Police Department in this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Cotten is prosecuting this case.
An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
